Clients may be redirected to the Password change .htr page, stating that their password is about to expire in (x) # of days, even though these accounts have the Password does not expire option set. This includes the local or domain administrator accounts. This problem only happens when BASIC authentication is used. CAUSEA pointer containing the last users expiration information is not always cleared for the next request. All other account information is correctly updated. WORKAROUNDTo workaround this issue, use NTLM instead of Basic authentication. RESOLUTIONA supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT service pack
