SYMPTOMSYou can use Microsoft Proxy Server to dial out to the Internet when a client requests a page from the Internet. However, the Dial on Demand (DOD) function will not dial out if the page requested is in the cache of the Proxy Server. In addition, when the client is connecting to the server via IPX, DOD always dials out even if the page is in the cache or is a local page on the internal network. WORKAROUND
In order to work around this issue, you can add the following registry
entry that will keep the server from dialing if the web page is in the
cache.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Proxy Server version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
