Large Hypertext Transfer Protocol File Downloads Are Unsuccessful

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download a large file from an Internet Web site using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), the Download Complete dialog box may appear, but the file download may actually be unsuccessful.


CAUSE

This problem can occur if your computer has a slow connection to the Internet and you connect to the Internet with Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0.


RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this problem, edit the registry on the Proxy Server-based computer:

  1. Use Registry Editor (Regedit) to view the following registry key:


  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Inetinfo\Parameters
  3. Add the following value:


  4. Value Name: MinFileKbSec
    Data Type: REG_DWORD
    Data Value: 5
  5. Restart your computer.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
