Proxy Server 2.0 Log Records May Contain Unsafe Characters

ID: Q231050

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

Log analysis tools such as Microsoft Site Server Analysis may import Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 logs incorrectly.

CAUSE

Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 log records are comma delimited. Any fields containing commas in the field, such as a URL string or user agent string, can case analysis tools to detect a part of the field as a separate field. This is because Proxy Server logging does not replace commas in a field as it should.

RESOLUTION

This problem is resolved in Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For more information about Service Pack 1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Q238375 Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1: List of Fixes

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Proxy Server 2.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Unsafe characters in record fields are now replaced with apostrophes.
