Proxy 2.0 Web Administration Tool May Not Work in Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you install the Proxy 2.0 Web Administration tool on a Proxy 2.0 server running on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based server, you may receive the following error message:

System cannot log you on. Object required Error number = 1A8


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the permissions and application settings for the Proxy Server Administration Web site are not configured correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue in Windows 2000:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Proxy Server, and then click Microsoft Management Console.


  2. In the left pane, click Internet Information Services.


  3. In the right pane, double-click your server.


  4. In the right pane, double-click MS Proxy Administration Web Site.


  5. In the right pane, right-click PrxAdmin, and then click Properties.


  6. Click the Virtual Directory tab.


  7. In the Application Settings section, set the Permissions setting to Script.


  8. In the Application Settings section, click Create. If the Remove button is displayed and there is no Create button, go to the next step.


  9. In the Application Protection section, set the Protection setting to Low (IIS Process).


  10. Click OK.


  11. Restart the computer.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Proxy Server 2.0 Web Administration tool for Windows 2000 Server.

The Proxy 2.0 Web Administration tool is used by administrators to manage a Proxy 2.0-based server by using a Web browser over the Internet. This tool is implemented as the Proxy Server Administration Web site and operates similarly to the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Administration Web site.
