Components Required for SBS Manage Server (Console.exe)

ID: Q178269

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.0

SUMMARY

The SBS Manage Server (Console.exe) application of BackOffice Small Business Server is a Web browser-based application. The console reads HTML-based files stored on the local system off the root in the SmallBusiness\HTML folder.

MORE INFORMATION

The SBS Manage Server applications require four components of Small Business Server to be installed for proper operations.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 3.02

NOTE: IE 4.0 cannot be used with SBS at this time.

  • Microsoft Active Server Pages for Internet Server 3.0

  • Microsoft Small Business Server

  • Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0

Each of the listed applications can be verified through the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
  • The Microsoft Small Business Server component (Startsam.exe) installs the Manage Server (Console.exe) application.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 can be installed through the Small Business Server installation program (Startsam.exe) or off the Small Business Server compact disc (Disc 1: IE\I386\Msie30.exe).

  • Microsoft Active Server Pages can be installed through the Small Business Server installation program (Startsam.exe) or from the Small Business Server compact disc (Disc 1: Aspsrv\I386\Setup.exe).

  • Microsoft Internet Information Server can be installed by clicking the Services tab in the Network tool in Control Panel or from the Small Business Server compact disc (Disc 1 I386: I386\Inetsrv\Inetstp.exe or Disc 1 Alpha Processor: Alpha\Inetsrv\Inetstp.exe).

Each of the components can be easily removed and reinstalled.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Internet Explorer 3.02 can connect to the local Web server, which has been configured with additional HTML pages that can be used with Small Business Server. The use of IE 3.02 to verify proper operations of Internet Information Server and Active Server Pages (ASP) should be done prior to reinstallation of components. Because the Web pages used through Internet Explorer are ASP-based, both Internet Information Server and ASP can be verified easily using the Small Business Server web pages.
