SYMPTOMS

When you run the Computer Setup Wizard and files are being copied, you may receive the following error message:

Error 5 copying
%systemroot%\SmallBiz\Clients\Response\%machinename%\sbs.prf to %systemroot%\Users Shared Folders\%Username%\sbs.prf


CAUSE

This error can occur for either of the following reasons:

  • The current installation of Small Business Server was installed over a beta version. When you check the permissions for the folders listed above, Account Unknown is listed three times.


  • Setup was halted before it completed copying files from Disk 2 (the clients CD-ROM). This results in an incomplete folder structure, and keeps the Computer Setup Wizard from completing.



RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:

Installed Over a Beta Installation

If the current installation of Small Business Server was installed over a beta version, use the following steps:
  1. Check the permissions for the folders listed earlier in this article, and then remove "Account Unknown" from the permissions list.


  2. Add Administrators, System, and the User Account with Full Control in the %username% folder.


  3. Add only Administrators and System - Full Control for the Response folder.


Setup Halted Before Files Were Copied

If Setup was halted before it completed copying files from Disk 2, use the following steps:
  1. Run Samsetup.exe again, and then copy the client files to the server.


  2. Complete the Computer Setup Wizard by following the instructions on the screen.
