Getting Confirmation for Faxes Sent by Small Business Server

ID: Q179838

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.0a

SUMMARY

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server can provide e-mail confirmation for faxes successfully transmitted. This article describes how to configure the server and client to send and receive notifications.

MORE INFORMATION

To enable e-mail notification of successful transmission, follow these steps:

On the Small Business Server

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Fax Server.

  2. Click the Routing tab.

  3. Click the Allow Routing via E-Mail checkbox, select Administrator from the Profile Name list box, and then click OK.

  4. Double-click Services in Control Panel.

  5. Select the Fax Service and click Stop.

  6. After the Fax service is stopped, click Start.

On the SBS Client

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the Fax Client.

  2. Click the General Tab.

  3. Enter the Exchange Server mailbox in the Email Address. (This is the Users Mail Box name, not the entire SMTP email address. So if the users email address is Jsmith@Acme.Com, they would enter only Jsmith in the email address box.)

  4. Click OK.

  5. Send a fax using any of the following methods: Exchange client, Outlook client, Fax Send Utility, or File Print to Fax from within an application.

After the fax is sent, a sent confirmation will arrive in the Inbox of the Exchange mailbox supplied for "Email address."

The steps above apply to both Windows NT and Windows 95 clients.
