SYMPTOMSYour cursor may change to an hourglass and even disappear when you try to run the Small Business Server (SBS) Administrative Console. Wizards may not function correctly and may cause multiple Java Script errors to occur. In some cases, the Manage Server option my not even be present from the Start menu. CAUSEMultiple problems with the Administrative Console, Java Script errors, and general functionality of the applications can occur if the proper check boxes are not selected after you cancel and restart the application setup portion of Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server. When you install SBS, these boxes are automatically selected but will be cleared if setup is run again after you cancel. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, select the following check boxes after you cancel setup and restart the installation (application portion) of SBS setup:

When the Small Business Server portion of setup begins, the applications
required for proper functionality of the Console are automatically checked
and cannot be cleared. However, if setup is cancelled and the server is
restarted, these required applications will not be selected. Actually, no
applications will be selected and this requires that each one has to be
selected manually. If the proper, required applications are not selected
when setup is restarted, the Administrative Console will not function. The
required applications for proper Administrative Console functionality are
listed below and these must be manually selected after canceling and
restarting the installation regardless of what is desired.
