SBS Installation on Alpha Does Not Convert Partition to NTFS

Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.0a

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server on an Alpha-based system that is already running an operating system on a FAT partition, the partition is not converted to NTFS; the default for SBS.

CAUSE

Small Business Server needs to be installed on an NTFS partition in order to operate correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove all other operating systems before starting the installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Small Business Server versions 4.0 and 4.0a. We are researching this problem and will post additional information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
