Using Two Modems Causes Name Resolution Problems

SYMPTOMS

After you create a duplicate RAS phonebook entry for the same provider and associate it with a second modem, the Proxy server is configured to use one modem and the Exchange Internet Mail Service is configured to use the other. When both the Proxy server and the Internet Mail Service attempt to dial at the same time, you receive a duplicate name error and both processes fail.

RESOLUTION

Use the same RAS phonebook entry for both the Proxy and Internet Mail Service. You can also use two different RAS phonebook entries with two different providers.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
