Wizard Was Unable to Read the Permission Information

ID: Q189088

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.0a

SYMPTOMS

The following messages are received in this order when creating a new user with the Add a New User wizard in Manage Console:

Unable to create shared folder for username.
The Wizard successfully created a user account for user_fullname with the username username.
The Wizard was unable to read the permission information on the shared folder sharename.
The last error message is repeated with a different share name each time until all shares have been named. This is misleading as the only two shares at this point to be concerned about are "users" and "company".

Additionally, you may encounter the following error message:

The network name could not be found.

CAUSE

These error messages are given when the share and security properties on Company Shared Folders and Users Shared Folders directories has changed from that which was set up by default during installation.
