Previous Recipient Information Remains in Fax Send Utility

ID: Q196434

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.0a

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. For information about how to do this, view the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.

SUMMARY

The Fax Send utility in BackOffice Small Business Server allows a user to enter recipient information manually, or use the Exchange Address Book. If a user types in a recipient's name and fax number, that recipient's information will be displayed each time the Fax Send Wizard is used. This information will change if a new recipient is entered, but will not be replaced by any information entered from the Exchange Address Book.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

The recipient name is stored in the registry at:

KEY: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fax\UserInfo\
Value: LastRecipientName
The recipient fax number is stored in the registry at:
KEY: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fax\UserInfo\
Value: LastRecipientAreaCode and LastRecipientNumber
If the values are cleared, the fax send utility will not display the last recipient information.

Please note that the next time information is typed directly in the To: line of the Fax Send utility, it will again be stored to the registry. To clear the information repeat the steps above.

MORE INFORMATION

To avoid having information about the last recipient written to the registry, always use the Exchange Address Book.

In Microsoft Windows NT Workstation, the permission on the UserInfo registry key can be set to read-only. This prevents information from being written to the LastRecipient values, but it also prevents other information from being changed, such as selection of cover pages and sender information. If any values in the UserInfo key need to be changed, the permission on the key needs to be modified first.

Permissions on registry keys cannot be set in Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98.
