ID: Q216447

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.0a

SUMMARY

This article is intended to help determine which version of the installation compact discs for Small Business Server (SBS) you currently have. The CD-ROM media looks identical, and the only way to tell is to follow the directions outlined below in the More Information section. There are two versions:

  • Small Business Server 4.0 Installation compact discs (Alpha and Intel)

  • Small Business Server 4.0a Installation compact discs (Alpha and Intel)

MORE INFORMATION

To determine which version of the installation CDs you currently have, do the following:

  1. Insert Disc 1 (Intel) into the CD-ROM drive.

  2. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the CD-ROM drive.

  3. On the root of the compact disc, there is a directory labeled IE. Select this directory.

  4. Within the IE directory, select and double-click the directory labeled i386.

  5. The contents of this directory determine which version of SBS this is.

  6. If there is a single file labeled Msie30.exe in this directory, the version is SBS 4.0.

  7. If there are approximately 126 files (including several .cab files), the version is SBS 4.0a.
