Closing Help Windows May Bring Background Program to Foreground

SYMPTOMS

If you close Help windows from the BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) console, the console may no longer be the active program. Instead, a program running in the background may be brought to the foreground.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use either of the following methods:

Click the window of the program that is in the foreground to make it the active program (this is evident by a change in the color of the title bar). Minimize or quit the program and the SBS console should become available for use.

Click the SBS console button on the taskbar to make the console the active program.

NOTE: Even if it is visible, the SBS console is not accessible if it is the background program but not the active program.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Small Business Server 4.5.

MORE INFORMATION

In less severe cases of this problem, a program running in the background may flash on the screen for a fraction of a second.
