SQL Server 7.0 Setup Stops if Directory Name Contains Cyrillic Character

SYMPTOMS

If you specify a custom directory name that contains Cyrillic characters when you install Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 on your computer, the installation may be unsuccessful.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs because SQL Server 7.0 does not recognize Cyrillic characters in installation or data directory names.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use standard ASCII characters for SQL Server 7.0 installation and data directory names.
