Kodak Imaging Software Must Be Installed for SBS Fax Client to View Faxes

ID: Q218120

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) Fax client on a computer running Microsoft Windows 98, you may not be able to view faxes.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Kodak Imaging software included with Windows 98 may not be installed.

Kodak Imaging software is included with Windows 98 and is automatically installed on computers running Windows 98. The Fax client included with SBS 4.5 uses this software to view faxes that are stored on the server. If the imaging software is not installed, it may not be possible to view faxes from the client computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the Kodak Imaging software on the SBS client computer from the Windows 98 installation CD-ROM.

You can also use the following procedure to install the Kodak Imaging software on the SBS client computer:

  1. On the client computer, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  2. Click the Windows NT Setup tab.

  3. Click Accessories, and then click Details.

  4. Select the Imaging check box.

  5. Click OK, and then finish the installation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5.

MORE INFORMATION

If you set up an SBS client computer using the Setup Computer Wizard (SCW), no error message is generated to alert you that the imaging software is not present. However, if you manually set up the Fax client from the ClientApps folder on the server, an error message is displayed to alert you that you must install the Kodak Imaging software to view faxes.
