SYMPTOMSAfter you establish a connection to your Internet service provider (ISP) using your computer that has BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) installed, the Microsoft Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) service may stop. CAUSEThis problem occurs because Small Business Server DHCP service is designed to be the only DHCP server on a network. Because of this, the DHCP service may shut down if another DHCP server is detected on the network. RESOLUTIONYou can disable bindings to the DHCP service in SBS 4.5 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 and later. To prevent the DHCP service from becoming inactive because of another DHCP server at the ISP, disable the DHCP service bindings for the interface connected to the ISP:
