Configuration of the Server Status Tool in SBS 4.5

SUMMARY

You can use the Server Status tool to gather information about the Small Business Server (SBS) computer and its performance, and you can send the information to any e-mail or fax recipient.

To configure the Server Status tool, in SBS Console, click Tasks, click Administration Tools, and then click Configure Server Status Tool.

When you configure Server Status reports, you need to determine the level of information that you want to collect and how it should be sent. You can configure the following parameters in the Server Status Configuration dialog box:

Send Options

  • You can send server status information to any valid Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or fax recipient.


  • You can send SMTP reports using the Microsoft Exchange Server Internet Mail Service.


  • You can send fax reports using the Microsoft Fax Service.


  • You can send and schedule all reports using the Task Scheduler service, according to the settings on the Schedule tab.


Reports

The Server Status tool includes the following reports:
  • Internet Information Server (IIS) logs


  • Web Proxy logs


  • Winsock Proxy logs


  • Status of all server services


  • Percentage of drive space available


NOTE: The IIS, Web Proxy, and Winsock Proxy logs can be quite large and take time to transmit over a fax or modem.

Schedule

  • You can schedule tasks on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.


  • You can schedule daily tasks for a specific time of day.


  • You can run tasks at logon, system startup, or when the system is idle.


  • You can configure all tasks on a recurring basis.


Settings

  • You can delete tasks upon completion, or you can stop them if they are not completed within a specific time frame.


  • You can configure tasks you set for idle time for a specific idle time or you can stop them if the computer is in use.


  • You can configure tasks not to start or to be stopped if the computer is running on battery backup.
