Installation Steps for SBS 4.5 Part 2

NOTE: Part 1 completed the installation of Service Pack 4. This article begins with the installation of programs with Small Business Server 4.5.
MORE INFORMATION-
After you install Service Pack 4, the server restarts, and automatically logs on. After you log on, you receive the following message:
Small Business Server 4.5 Setup will now continue
Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 4, has been successfully installed.
Setup will install your server applications next.
Click Next.

The next screen displayed is the Company Information dialog box:
Company Information
This information will be used to configure the Small Business Server Console.
Company Address
City
State/Province
Zip/Postal Code
Type the company name and address in the appropriate boxes, and then click Next.

The Administrator password dialog box is displayed:
Administrator Account Password
The Administrator account is used to install and maintain Small Business Server.
Guard the Administrator password carefully. If you lose your password, you must reinstall SBS.
Enter the password for the Administrator account, then re-enter it as confirmation.

Re-enter the same password:
Type the password for the Administrator account, and then click Next.

Small Business Server uses some parts of Microsoft Outlook 2000, which is a component of Microsoft Office 2000. The following dialog box is displayed:
Microsoft Office 2000 CD Identification
Enter the following customer identification.
Small Business Server includes Microsoft Office 2000 components. These require a Microsoft Office specific CD-Key.
In the boxes below, type your 25 character CD Key. You'll find this number on the yellow sticker on the back of the CD jewel case.
The CD Key required can be found on the back of the Outlook 2000 CD-ROM jewel case. If you purchased the version of SBS that was bundled with Office 2000, the CD key is on the back of the Office 2000 CD-ROM jewel case. Type the required CD key, and then click Next.
NOTE: The Next button is not availabel until you type the last correct letter.

The Installation Options dialog box is displayed:
Installation Options
Select how much of Small Business Server you wish to install.
Complete Installation
Recommended. Installs all the features of Small Business Server.
Custom Installation
Lets you select the specific components to install.
NOTE: The default installation is Complete install.
If you click More Information, you can see the list of components that are installed by default.
If you select Complete install, you are taken to the SQL Database Configuration step if a modem is not present, or the Telephone Properties if a modem is installed.
If you select Custom, a list of the programs provided with Small Business Server are displayed. This list includes the following programs:
- Internet Explorer Browser 5.0
- SQL Server 7.0 (optional)
- Windows NT Option Pack 4.0 for BackOffice
- Proxy Server 2.0 for BackOffice
- Microsoft Management Console 1.1
- Microsoft Fax Server 4.5 (optional)
- Modem Sharing Service 4.5 (optional)
- Exchange Server 5.5 SP2 for SBS (optional)
- Small Business Server Administrator
- Client Applications 4.5 (optional)
NOTE: If no modem is detected, the Fax Server and Modem Sharing Service are not included in the list of components.
If you try to remove a required programn from the installation, you receive this error message:

This component must be installed for Small Business Server to run correctly.

The Telephone Properties dialog box is displayed:

The Fax service requires this information.

*If you omit this field, fax server will not be installed.
Type the appropriate information in the boxes, and then click Tone or Pulse dialing. If you do not include an area code and fax number, the fax server does not install. Click Next.

The next screen is the SQL Database Configuration dialog box:

These parameters define the structure of your SQL database. Once set, they are difficult to change.
In most cases, the default settings are acceptable here. Either accept the defaults or make any changes you want, and then click Next.
- You see the following dialog box:

Applications will be installed to the folders shown. To remove applications, go back to the installation options screen, then select Custom Installation.

Small Business Server Adminstrator
Client Applications
SQL, Windows NT Option Pack, and Exchange Server have plus signs (+) left of the name. If you click one of the plus signs, you expand the list of items that make up the main program. You can click any program to see if you want to change the installation location. Click Next.
If you do not have enough free disk space, you receive the following error message:
Setup is reporting that the following drives do not have enough disk space.
Drive X has 1546 megabytes free and needs 1931 megabytes to install.
Please change your server program locations or remove some programs in the custom installation area.
NOTE: If you receive this error message, go back and either remove unrequired programs, or change the destination folder for some of the programs. Click OK.

The next screen that will appear is to allow for customization of the locations in which data will be stored on the server.
Folder for Small Business Server Data
Specify the root directories of the folders in which data will be stored. The actual folders will be appended to these directories.

Users Shared Folders
The locations of SQL data files, Fax Folder, and Company and User Shared folders can be changed here. To do so, highlight the desired folder and click Change Folder. For more information, click on the More Information button. Otherwise, click Next

At this point, the Small Business Server components will be installed. The following screen will be titled as shown below:

Setup will now install the components for your Small Business Server Business Solution.
The following applications will be installed during this phase:
Internet Explorer Browser
Microsoft Management Console
SQL Server
Windows NT Option Pack
Proxy Server
Microsoft Fax Server
Modem Sharing Service
Exchange Server
Small Business Server Administrator
Client Applications
While a component is being installed, it is bold and has an arrow next to it. After a component is installed, a check mark is displayed next to it. If an X is displayed next to a component, it was not installed successfully.
The first program installed is Internet Explorer. After this is complete, the server restarts, logs on automatically, and continues the installation.

As the programs continue to install, you are prompted to insert the correct CD-ROM.
Please insert the Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5 CD #2.
This dialog box is displayed for CD-ROM #2 and CD-ROM #3. Insert the appropriate CD-ROM, and then click OK.

If you are using the version of Small Business Server that included Microsoft Office 2000, follow this step, and then skip to step 14. Otherwise, skip to step 13.
While you install the Client Applications, setup prompts you for the Microsoft Office Setup files twice. The following two dialog boxes are displayed while installing the programs:
Setup needs the Microsoft Office2000 setup files
Please insert the Microsoft Office 2000 Professional Disc 1 or point to the directory where the Microsoft Office 2000 setup program may be found.
When you receive this prompt, insert Microsoft Office CD #1 into the CD-ROM drive, and then click OK.

Please insert the Microsoft Office 2000 Professional Disc 2 or point to the directory where the Microsoft Office 2000 setup program may be found.
When you receive this prompt, insert Microsoft Office CD #2 into the CD-ROM drive, and then click OK.
NOTE: These files are being placed on the server to be downloaded to the clients. Microsoft Office is not being installed for use on the server.

While installing the Client Applications, setup will prompt for the Microsoft Outlook 2000 CD with the following dialog box:
Setup needs the Microsoft Office2000 setup files
Please insert the Microsoft Outlook 2000 Disc or point to the directory where the Microsoft Outlook 2000 setup program may be found.
At this point, insert the Microsoft Outlook 2000 CD, and click OK.

At this point, the application installation is complete, and setup will apply Service Pack 4 to the system. The following dialog box will appear while this occurs:
Please be patient while Service Pack Setup inspects your Windows NT configuration, prepares the necessary files, archives your existing files, and then install the new files to update Windows NT.
Please wait while Service Pack Setup updates your system files.

The following screen will appear if the installation of Small Business Server has completed without errors. If any errors occured, please proceed to step 16. If you did not received any errors, and see the screen below, skip to step 16.
Completing the Microsoft BackOffice Small
Business Server 4.5 Setup Wizard
You have successfully completed Small Business Server Setup.
To close the wizard, click Finish.
Click Finish, and the following dialog box will appear:

Your system must be restarted. Do you want to restart now?
Click Yes and the server will restart and log on automatically.
The "To Do List" screen will appear, and the installation is finished.

If any programs are not installed successfully, an error messeage is displayed, similar to the following:

The following applications did not install correctly.
BackOffice Programs Problem
Proxy Server Setup could not find the IIS Virtual Root Script.
The error message varies depending on the program that has a problem. This dialog box is information only and you can address the situation after you complete Setup. Click Next.
Completing the Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5 Setup Wizard
There were problems during setup. Not all components are configured properly.
To close the wizard, click Finish.
Click Finish, and the following dialog box is displayed:

Your system must be restarted. Do you want to restart now?
Click Yes, and the server restarts and logs on automatically.
The To Do List screen is displayed and the installation is complete.
