Cannot Manually Install Windows NT Fax Client

ID: Q232936

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0, 4.5

SYMPTOMS

When you use Faxsetup.exe on a client computer to manually install the Microsoft Windows NT Fax client, you may receive the following error message:

You have violated the license agreement for the Small Business Server by installing Microsoft Fax Server on a computer not running Small Business Server.
When this message occurs, the Fax client installation cannot be completed.

Note that you do not receive the error message if you manually install the Fax client for Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the Small Business Server (SBS) Manage Server console to generate the client Setup disk to install the Fax client.

If you need to manually install the Fax client on a Windows NT-based computer:

  1. On the Windows NT client, map a drive to the Fax client installation path using Windows NT Explorer or the NET USE command. By default this path is %SBSServer%\Clients.

  2. At a command prompt, change to the Ms\Fax\I386 folder on the drive letter mapped in the previous step, and then run the FAXSETUP.EXE -TC command.

MORE INFORMATION

Generally, you should use the SBS Manage Server console to generate client Setup disks to configure networking on client computers and install programs. When you install programs manually, some configuration options can be overlooked.
