TPU: Cannot Connect to TPU with Windows NT 4.0 Workstation

SYMPTOMS

When you try to connect to the TPU Start Page on a TPU server using a computer running a clean install of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, you may receive the following error message:

Object Moved

Internet Explorer
Could not open http://servername/tpuweb

The status bar at the bottom of your browser, flashes between the following two messages:

Opening TPUWeb at servername

and

Opening TPUWeb at x.x.x.x

NOTE: Depending on the Web site name you selected during TPU Setup, you may or may not see TPUWeb. TPUWeb is the default name that is displayed during Setup, but may have been changed from the default during the Setup.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install Internet Explorer 5 using the following steps:

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type \\servername\tpushar\ie5, where servername is the name of your TPU server and tpushar is the share name of the client share folder. By default the name of the client share folder is TPUShar.

Double-click Shortcut to IE5Setup.

By default, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation comes with Internet Explorer 2.0. In order to connect to the TPU Start Page, you must have Internet Explorer 4.x or later. With Internet Explorer 4.x, you can only connect to the TPU Start Page, and the Client Software Installation page. TPU requires Internet Explorer 5 in order to connect to a TPU Team Workspace.
