How to Install Microsoft Outlook 2000 on a Small Business Server 4.5 Computer

SUMMARY

Microsoft Outlook 2000 client is not installed by default on a BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5 (SBS) computer. This article describes how to install Outlook 2000 on your SBS 4.5 computer.

To install Outlook 2000 on your SBS 4.5 computer:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.


  2. Click Microsoft Exchange System Attendant, and then click Stop (this stops the Microsoft Exchange Server services).


  3. Click Microsoft Fax Server, and then click Stop.


  4. NOTE: Be sure to stop any other services or programs that use MAPI calls.

  5. In Windows NT Explorer, locate the c:\ClientApps\Ms\Office\Cd1 folder:


  6. Run Setup and complete the setup process.


  7. After Setup completes, double-click the Services tool in Control Panel.


  8. Start the following Exchange Server services:


    • System Attendant


    • Directory


    • Store


    • Message Transfer Agent


    • Internet Mail Service (if this service was previously running)


    • Microsoft Fax Server


After you perform these steps, Outlook 2000 acquires any previous Exchange Server profiles.

NOTE: Outlook 2000 should not be installed on a computer running SBS 4.0 or 4.0a.
