-
Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5
SYMPTOMS
When you run the Fax Report tool from the SBS console in BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) 4.5, an empty report may be generated and the following message is displayed:
Your query did not return any records, so there is nothing to display.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the Fax Report tool looks for information that is not in the Event Viewer logs. Portions of the Event Viewer files may be corrupted, or the fax server may not be registering events with Event Viewer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify that fax events are being written to Event Viewer:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
- On the Log tab, click Application.
- On the View tab, click Filter Events.
- In the Source box, click Windows NT Fax.
If there are no events in the log (and you know faxes have been sent or received), verify that event logging is enabled:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Fax (Common), and then double-click Fax Configuration.
- On the Logging tab, ensure that all categories are set to maximum logging level, and then click OK.
If events are being written and are not displayed in the report, purge the Event Viewer files:
- Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
- On the Log tab, click Application.
- On the Log tab, click Clear All Events.
- The Clear Event Log dialog box appears and you are prompted to click Yes, to save the event log file before you clear all events. If you want to save the file, click Yes, otherwise click No, and clear the events.
- On the Log tab, click System.
- On the Log tab, click Clear All Events.
- The Clear Event Log dialog box appears and you are prompted to click Yes, to save the event log file before you clear all events. If you want to save the file, click Yes, otherwise click No, and clear the events.
MORE INFORMATION
During the generation of a fax report, a series of queries extracts the information on fax events from the Event Viewer files, and that information is written to a temporary report file where it is cataloged for display.
If the logging is not set to write events or if the Event Viewer files are corrupted, no data is extracted and written to the temporary report files (Faxin.csv and Faxout.csv), which are located in the SmallBusiness\HTML\Logs folder. Viewing the properties for those files when the report is not working reveals that the files are 0 bytes in size.
