TPU: Removing and Reinstalling the Outlook 2000 Team Folders Wizard Causes Team Folder Application Creation Not to Succeed

SYMPTOMS

After you remove and reinstall the Microsoft Outlook 2000 Team Folders Wizard, you receive the following error message when you attempt to create a Team Folder Application within a Team Workspace:

Unable to complete aim application modifications.

Team Workspace Name: WorkspaceName
Unable to add application(s).
Discussion Forum: Unable to create application Discussion Forum. Could not create a new or open an existing Team Workspace Public Folder.


CAUSE

This behavior is caused by removing the Outlook 2000 Team Folders Wizard by using the Add/Remove Programs tool. Team Productivity Update (TPU) depends on the Team Folders Wizard to create Team Folder Applications within the workspaces. During TPU Setup, two registry values are changed. When you remove and reinstall the Team Folders Wizard by using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, these registry values are not configured as TPU expects.


RESOLUTION

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this problem, add the missing registry values:

  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).


  2. Locate the CTLCodeBase value under the following key in the registry:


  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\ServerAddins\Microsoft.OLTeamFolderWizard
  4. Double-click CTLCodebase, and then type the following path


  5. HTTP://ServerName/TeamFolders/
    where ServerName is the computer name of your Web server.

  6. Locate the DefaultTargetFolder value under the following key in the registry:


  7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\ServerAddins\Microsoft.OLTeamFolderWizard
  8. Double-click DefaultTargetFolder, and then type the path for the public folder for TPU. The path does not need to include the "Public Folders" or "All Public Folders" entries.

    For example, if the public folder is


  9. \Public Folders\All Public Folders\TPU\TPUTeamFolders
    the DefaultTargetFolder value becomes:
    TPU\TPUTeamFolders
  10. Quit Registry Editor.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
