TPU: Team Folder Applications May Not Be Added After Team Productivity Update Setup Is Finished

SYMPTOMS

When the Team Folder Applications page is displayed during Team Productivity Update (TPU) Setup, you are prompted to type a path to the public folder that you manually created for the Team Folder applications. When you type a path name, the Team Folder applications may not be added to the public folders after Setup is finished.


CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you type a character other than a backslash (\) in the path name. A valid public folder path name cannot include invalid characters, such as slash marks (/), semicolons (;), and so on.

The following example shows a correct path name:

Applications\TPU\TPUTeamFolderApps
The following example shows an incorrect path name:
Applications/TPU:TeamFolderApps


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this problem, correct the incorrect public folder entry in the registry:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).


  2. Locate the DefaultTargetFolder value under the following key in the registry:


  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\ServerAddins\Microsoft.OLTeamFolderWizard
  4. Double-click DefaultTargetFolder and type the path for the public folder that you created for Team Productivity Update. This path does not need to include the "Public Folders" or "All Public Folders" portion of the path. For example, if the public folder is


  5. \Public Folders\All Public Folders\TPU\TPUTeamFolders
    the DefaultTargetFolder value is:
    TPU\TPUTeamFolders
  6. Quit Registry Editor.


After you correct this value Team Folder Applications should install properly. However, any applications that were specified during the initial TPU Workspace creation must be deleted and re-created.

Method 2

To resolve this issue, reinstall TPU.

To view the correct path name to the public folder that you should type during Setup:
  1. Right-click the public folder you created for the Team Folder applications, and then click Properties.


  2. On the Administration tab, the exact path is displayed at the bottom of the page.
