ID: Q241318

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5

SUMMARY

After you set up or upgrade your computer, you may need to move shared folders from their installed locations. In SBS 4.5, there is the Move A Folder Wizard, which allows the system administrator to move shares to another location.

NOTE: In Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server versions 4.0 and 4.0a, shares had to be moved manually, which could cause problems later. MORE INFORMATION

Any share can now be moved using using the Move A Folder Wizard. The wizard is found on the Manage Shared Folders page when you click Tasks in the Small Business Server console. As long as the share appears in the list of shared folders, it can be moved using the Move A Folder Wizard.

Three installed shared folders do not appear on this list. They are:

  • ClientApps

  • Users

  • FaxStore

To move these folders, click Online Guide, click Shared Folders, click Managing Shared Folders, and then click Move ClientApps, Users, and FaxStore Shared Folders. A Help window then appears. Click on the share to be moved, and then follow the directions presented by the wizard.

If the FaxStore folder is to be moved, the Fax Service must be reconfigured to point to the new location. To do this:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, then double-click Fax Server.

  2. Click the Receive tab.

  3. Select Save in folder, and then type the complete path for the folder in its new location.

  4. Click OK.

For troubleshooting purposes, or as a manual way of moving these shared folders:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.

  2. Type the following command to move the folder in question:

    1. For the ClientApps folder, type the following command:

    2. %SystemDrive%\smallbusiness\mvfldr.exe /s ClientApps
    3. For the Users folder, type the following command:
