SUMMARYThis article contains a portion of the information in the Microsoft Team Productivity Update (TPU) Release Notes file. The file (Readme.htm) is located on the TPU Installation CD-ROM and can be viewed from any Web browser. MORE INFORMATIONTeam WorkspaceInstall on Demand ComponentsWhen using a Team Workspace, an Internet Explorer 5, Outlook 2000, or MDAC component may require an update or need to be installed. During the install on demand process, users may have to provide a path to the installation location of the component. The installation location for Internet Explorer 5, Outlook 2000, or MDAC is the client share directory on the TPU server. The default path to the client share directory is \\servername\TPUShar, where servername is the computer name of the TPU server.Accessing a TPU Server Using an IP AddressIf you attempt to access a TPU server using its IP address, the Enter Network Password dialog box appears. You must enter your user name and password. When you click OK, the Enter Network Password dialog box appears again. You must enter your user name and password a second time. When you click OK, you will be able to access the TPU server.Domain Selections Can Time Out With Large Domains or With Mixed DomainsWhen a user attempts to select a domain in the Team Workspace Creation Request Wizard or the Team Workspace Owner/Member Modification Request Wizard, a time-out can occur if the domain selected is a large domain or a domain that contains both Windows NT and Windows 2000 computers.Team Workspace Groups and Shortcuts Do Not Appear on the Outlook BarWhen a new Team Workspace is created or when you change from your current Team Productivity Update server to a new Team Productivity Update server, some Team Workspace groups and shortcuts may not appear on the Outlook Bar. To display the missing Team Workspace groups and shortcuts, exit and then restart Outlook. If the groups and shortcuts do not appear after you exit and restart Outlook, log off and log back on to the computer.Shortcuts Added to Outlook Bar in Outlook 2000 Do Not Appear in the Internet Explorer Outlook BarWhen you add a shortcut to the Outlook Bar in Outlook 2000, click Refresh in Internet Explorer to display the shortcut on the Internet Explorer Outlook Bar. If the shortcut does not appear, log off and log back on to the computer.Adding Outlook Bar Shortcuts to Local ResourcesTeam Workspace members can add shortcuts to the Outlook Bar that link to personal resources, such as a local drive or folder. However, these local shortcuts are not available to members when they are logged on to a different computer.File Download Dialog Box Appears When You Click Personal Shortcuts in Internet ExplorerIf your Team Workspace has a personal shortcut that points to an application (*.exe file), Internet Explorer will always display the File Download dialog box. For example, if you add a personal shortcut to the Calculator application in Windows, every time you click that shortcut, Internet Explorer will display the File Download dialog box to ask you if you want to run or save the file. If you select to run the file, the Calculator application will start.NOTE: If you click the same Calculator shortcut in Outlook 2000, the Calculator application will start without displaying the File Download dialog box. Connecting to the Team Productivity Update is Slow for Remote UsersBecause the Outlook Bar must synchronize with Team Workspaces, remote users may experience delays while connecting to the TPU via a modem. If users only require Outlook while working remotely and do not need additional Team Workspace functionality, they can turn off Outlook synchronization before they begin to work offline. To turn off Outlook 2000 synchronization:
Unable to Access Team Workspace Shortcuts Without a MouseThere are no keyboard shortcuts associated with Team Workspace shortcuts. You must use the mouse to access any of the Team Workspace shortcuts displayed on the Outlook Bar in Outlook or Internet Explorer 5.Unable to Take a Team Workspace Offline using OutlookTo take a Team Workspace offline, you must use Internet Explorer 5.Unable to Enter User Names That Contain Illegal Characters in HTML WizardsWhen a user attempts to type a domain\user name in the Team Workspace Creation Request Wizard or the Team Workspace Owner/Member Modification Request Wizard, the user name cannot contain any of the following characters: " [ ] : ; = , * | + ? < >. ! @ # $ % ^ & ( ) 'Cached Session Information Prevents the Team Workspace from Recognizing Membership ChangesIf a user disconnects his or her client computer from the Windows NT Server computer but does not log off, the server keeps the client session information cached for a period of time; the default is 15 minutes. If membership changes are made to a Team Workspace during this time and the user reconnects to the server, Windows NT Server will use the old session information. The Team Workspace will not recognize the membership changes until the client computer has been disconnected from the server for over 15 minutes, or until the user logs off the client computer and then logs on again. To enable client computers to recognize membership changes, you can either manually reset the session or change the length of time session information is cached. To manually reset the session:
Modify the Autodisconnect value. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Q138365 How the Autodisconnect Works in Windows NT Team DocumentsPointer Remains in "Busy" Mode After Adding a Document to Team DocumentsWhen you add a document to Team Documents, the pointer icon may remain in "busy" mode. However, you will still be able to perform actions using the mouse with the pointer icon in "busy" mode.Unable to Edit Text Files Stored in Team DocumentsIf a Team Documents file has a .txt extension, you will be able to open this file, but you may not be able to edit the file. If the .txt extension is associated with Notepad or Wordpad, you will not be able to edit the file. Notepad and Wordpad do not support an HTTP connection. This HTTP connection is necessary if you want to edit a document. If you have Office 2000, change the extension of the file from .txt to .doc. This will let you open and edit documents.Searching Beyond the Scope of a Team Documents Application Is Not SupportedWhen you search a Team Documents application using the Search Web Folders page, the "Find files in" field under the "Search by Location" section will contain the default location of the application. If you change the "Find files in" field, you may be searching beyond the scope of the Team Documents application. You may not be able to access all the documents in the search results.Accessing Documents from a Team Documents ApplicationYou can open the following file types directly from a Team Documents application:
To Create an Outlook Bar ShortcutFrom a Team Documents application, drag the desired document to the Outlook Bar.Sharing Excel Files in Team DocumentsIn Microsoft Excel, multiple users can work on a file concurrently. However, when an Excel file is used in Team Documents, only one member can have write permissions in a file; other team members must view the file as read-only.Team FoldersUnable to Use Team Folder ApplicationsIf a user belongs to the local Administrators group of the TPU server, that user will automatically have owner access to all Team Workspaces available on that computer. However, if the user has not been specifically added as a member of a Team Workspace, he or she will not be able to use any Team Folder applications included in that Team Workspace. The user must be added to each existing Team Folder application in order to use it. To add new Team Workspace members or owners to a Team Folder application, you must use the Administration page of the Team Folder application in Outlook 2000.Unable to Add New Members or Owners to an Existing Team Folder ApplicationWhen you add new members or owners to a Team Workspace, they will not be added to any existing Team Folder applications automatically. To add new Team Workspace members or owners to a Team Folder application, you must use the Administration page of the Team Folder application in Outlook 2000.TPU SDKUnable to Remove Database Files When Removing an Application from a Team WorkspaceWhen the Delete URL attempts to remove the database files, an error may occur. The error occurs because the database files are recognized as being currently in use. The database files will remain; however, all other files and directories for the application will be removed.Understanding the Types of Instantiation When Using the RegisterAppFactory MethodAn application can invoke three different instantiation modes:
Clients Will Not Be Able to Run a Team Workspace Application That is Registered with a Localhost URLWhen an application registers itself with the TPU, it must use a URL that has the name of the server. If it uses a URL with Localhost in it, then clients will not be able to run the application.Error Logging To Windows NT Event Log When Applying a Registered Application to a Team WorkspaceWhen applying a registered application to a Team Workspace using the TPU MMC, errors will be displayed and not written to the Windows NT Event Log. However, if the registered application is applied using the Web interface, then errors will be written to the Windows NT Event Log.Issues With the DropConfigure URLThe DropConfigure URL is called after the user cancels. It is also called from the MMC wizard after the Deploy URL is called. It is not being called as it should be when a request is approved or denied by an administrator, or approved by the auto-approve method.REFERENCESQ236103 TPU: Team Productivity Update Release Notes (Part 1 of 2) Additional query words:
