TPU: How to Configure a Windows 2000-Based Computer to Connect to a Team Productivity Update Server

ID: Q241710

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Team Productivity Update for BackOffice Server 4.5

SUMMARY

This article describes the configuration necessary to connect a Microsoft Windows 2000-based client to a Team Productivity Update (TPU) server.

NOTE: Connecting a Windows 2000-based client to a TPU server is not a tested configuration because Windows 2000 had not been released when TPU was released. Therefore, support is limited. This article describes a configuration that may possibly work with your Windows 2000 installation.

MORE INFORMATION

The following components are the minimum requirement for using the full capabilities of TPU Team Workspaces:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

  • Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1 or later

Windows 2000 includes Internet Explorer 5 and MDAC 2.5, so you do not need to install these components. You may want to install the Web Folders, Web Publishing Wizard, and Offline Browsing Pack features available with Internet Explorer 5 to obtain full functionality with Team Workspaces.

To use the Team Folder applications included with TPU, you need to make sure that Outlook 2000 is installed and configured properly. To use the Team Folder applications, you must configure the Outlook mail profile to point to a Microsoft Exchange server that contains the Public Folders in which the Team Folder applications are installed. Contact your TPU server administrator if you do not know the appropriate server to specify.

To use the Team Documents functionality, Microsoft recommends a full installation of Microsoft Office 2000. The Office 2000 programs provide online collaboration features that may be useful when you are working with a Team Folder application.
