TPU: How to Set Up an Office Program for Online Collaboration

ID: Q242293

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Team Productivity Update for BackOffice Server 4.5

SUMMARY

Team Productivity Update (TPU) includes the Team Documents application. This application is a central location in which you can store, view, and edit documents.

If you have Microsoft Office 2000, you can use the online collaboration features of Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Excel 2000, and Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 with the Team Documents application. These collaboration features include inline document discussions, subscribing to a document, and notification of document changes. Before you can use these features, you must configure the Office program to use the TPU server as a Discussion server.

MORE INFORMATION

To configure Office programs to use the TPU server as a Discussion server, follow these steps within Word 2000, Excel 2000, or PowerPoint 2000:

  1. Start one of the Office 2000 programs mentioned above. (This does not work with Microsoft Access 2000.)

  2. On the Tools menu, point to Online Collaboration, and then click Web Discussions.

  3. If the Add or Edit Discussions Server dialog box appears, continue with step 4. If not, skip to step 5.

  4. In the Add or Edit Discussion Servers dialog box, type the name of your TPU server. If you want, you can optionally type a friendly name for the discussion server. Click OK. Office 2000 is now configured to use your TPU server as a Discussion server.

  5. If the Add or Edit Discussions Server dialog box did not appear, click Discussions on the Discussions toolbar, and then click Discussion Options.

  6. In the Discussion Options dialog box, click Add.

  7. In the Add or Edit Discussion Servers dialog box, type the name of your TPU server. If you want, you can optionally type a friendly name for the discussion server. Click OK. Office 2000 is now configured to use your TPU server as a Discussion server.

For more information about adding discussions to a document or subscribing to a document, see the Help included in each Office 2000 program, or contact your system administrator.
