SBS: Contacts Folder from Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Outlook 98 Is Not Available in the SBS Fax Client

ID: Q243479

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server version 4.5

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the fax client software, the Contacts folder from Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Outlook 98 may not be available. Also, when you click Address Book, nothing may happen.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Outlook 2000 or Outlook 98 is not your default e-mail client.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, configure Outlook 2000 or Outlook 98 to be your default e-mail client:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
    "c:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe." /checkclient
NOTE: This command assumes that your installation of Outlook is located in the default folder and drive. If your path to the Outlook.exe file is different, substitute your actual path for the path noted above. For example, if you installed Outlook to the Microsoft Office\Office folder on drive D, you would type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK:
    "d:\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe." /checkclient

  2. When you receive the following message, click Yes to permit use of the address book in the fax client:
Outlook is not currently your default manager for Mail and News. Would you like to register Outlook as the default manager?
