TPU: Team Workspace Programs Cannot Have a Blank Friendly Name

ID: Q245215

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Team Productivity Update for BackOffice Server 4.5

SYMPTOMS

The Team Productivity Update (TPU) Team Workspace Application creation wizard permits you to enter a blank friendly name for any of the TPU AIM programs. When you use the TPU Start Page to create a program for a workspace, the suggested friendly name can be left blank, and the wizard will continue as if it is creating the program. However, when you click Finish on the Summary page, you receive the following error message:

Unable to submit your request to the system administrator for approval. Contact your system administrator.
Also, after you click OK and return to the TPU Start page, the program has not been created. Note that this problem only occurs from the TPU Start page from either a client or the server. This does not occur using the TPU Management Console from the server.

CAUSE

The TPU Hyper Text Markup Language-based wizards do not prevent a user from attempting to create a TPU Workspace program with a blank friendly name. When you perform the following steps, the wizard will proceed with a blank friendly name:

  1. Delete the suggested friendly name, and then enter a single-character name.

  2. Right-click in the window, and then click Undo.

  3. Click OK.

Because a friendly name is required for a program, the creation process does not work.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, create TPU Workspace programs with either the suggested friendly name, or a name that is one or more characters in length.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Team Productivity Update for BackOffice Server 4.5.
