SYMPTOMSThe Microsoft Personalization System (MPS) Operations Guide details the use of the Windows NT 4.0 System Policy Editor to turn off the 8.3 file name creation. After you follow this MPS pre-setup instruction, the Windows NT default administrative shares are no longer available. CAUSEThis is the result of a known issue with the Windows NT System Policy Editor. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.5, 3.51 and 4.0 of Microsoft Windows NT.
