Search Limited to 32 Connections

SYMPTOMS

When you use multiple catalogs as part of a single search, only a small number of concurrent users are able to connect and perform the search.

CAUSE

Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Search has a static pool of 32 connections. Each catalog in a search uses a connection. With a four-catalog search, only eight concurrent users can connect (4 x 8 = 32).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0.
