W3C Parser Does Not Read Non-Site Server Cookies

SYMPTOMS

User visits are not correctly tracked when non-site server cookies are used. The number of user visits may be incorrectly reported.

In the sample log file below, each entry is considered a new visit, even though the cookies are the same. This results in five visits being counted instead of just one.

Cookie processing for W3C does work properly when the Site Server User Identification Filter or MCIS ISAPI filter is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. This problem can also occur if the computer name exceeds 11 characters in length. If the Computer name exceeds 11 characters, Site Server setup cannot create the LDAP_ANONYMOUS account, which is needed to connect to the Membership database. For additional information, see Q193375.
