Access Denied When Crawling a Secured Site

SYMPTOMS

When crawling a secured site that is protected by Basic Clear text or Windows NT Challenge Response authentication, you may get an Access Denied error. The error message appears in the gatherer log and will be similar to the following:

   prth_e_access_denyed -2147216891

CAUSE

The rule in the catalog is not set up properly to handle a secured site.

RESOLUTION

Create a rule in the catalog, by performing the following steps:

1. Go to the properties of the catalog under the catalog build server. 2. Go to sites. 3. Select Add. 4. Add the sites you want to crawl. 5. Select the property of the site. 6. Select Account. 7. Set to the proper account. 8. Set to Basic Clear text or Windows NT Challenge Response accordingly. Bug
