Permission Problems Crawling an ODBC DB

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

Crawling a SQL Server database fails with the following error in the Gatherer log:

   <URL>, "PRTH_E_ACCESS_DENIED: -2147216891".

RESOLUTION

If the permissions are incorrect in the SiteServer/Knowledge directory, do the following:

1. Go to the IIS snap-in. 2. Bring up the Default Web Site. 4. Make sure the Directory Security is set to Basic (Clear Text) and

   Windows NT Challenge and Response

   Note: Only set Windows NT Challenge and Response if this is a Windows
   NT (Intranet) instance.

Also, Make sure the SQL Server account set during the Catalog Build Wizard is valid and has the correct permissions.

NOTE: SQL or ODBC compliant crawls only exist in the Search Web Administration interface.

where <computer name> is the Search server where the catalog will be created.
