PRB: Sample Sites Generate Errors

ID: Q199536

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Site Server version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to access pages on the Site Server sample sites, one of the following errors may be encountered:

BindAs failed, please contact your administrator Error number : 80070056
-or-
Unable to initialize auxiliary AUO object, please contact the administrator for this site Error number : 80020009 Error description : An error occurred in loading the container in which the user object is created.

CAUSE

These errors are typically caused by incorrect credentials being passed to their respective functions. In the sample sites included with Site Server 3.0, these values are hard-coded and stored in global variables in the Active Server Pages (ASP) pages in which they are used. So if you attempt to use the sample sites against a Membership Directory that does not use the default configuration supplied by Site Server 3.0, the hard-coded information stored in these variables will be considered invalid.

RESOLUTION

To get past these errors, you must modify the values of gMemUserScriptID and gMemUserPassword in the ASP pages of the sample sites to use the information that pertains to your specific Membership Directory instance.

For example, if the administrator object used for administering your Membership Directory exists in the path 'LDAP://localhost:389/o=MyCompany/ou=Members/cn=Administrator', you must set the variable 'gMemUserScriptID' to be 'cn=Administrator,ou=Members,o=MyCompany'. And the variable 'gMemUserPassword' must be set to use the appropriate password of that same Administrator object.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
