Site Server 3.0 May Fail to Install Over BackOffice Server 4.0

• Microsoft Site Server version 3.0, Commerce Edition
• Microsoft BackOffice Server version 4.5

SYMPTOMS

Site Server version 3.0, Commerce Edition fails to successfully install over Microsoft BackOffice Server version 4.5.

CAUSE

Site Server version 3.0, Commerce Edition requires the SendSMTP, EncodeMIME, and SMime components that are part of the MimeOLE components, which are installed with Microsoft Outlook Express. However, Microsoft Outlook Express is not installed because Backoffice Server 4.5 Setup performs a minimal install of Internet Explorer rather than the standard installation. Outlook Express is only installed with the full or standard installations.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install the full or standard version of the latest version of Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION
