How to Manually Remove Site Server 3.0

SUMMARY

If you have attempted to remove Site Server 3.0 through Add/Remove programs or through the application setup, and the uninstall fails, you must manually remove Site Server 3.0.

To manually remove Site Server 3.0, do the following:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

  1. Go to Control Panel, Services and make sure all of the Site Server services are stopped.


  2. In the Registry Editor, back up the following keys, and then delete them:

    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\ACMSVC
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\broksvc
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\CDF Generator
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\CRS
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Gatherer
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\gthrsvc
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\LDAPSVC
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\MCIS
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\msgbldsvc
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\MPS.SendMail
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\MPS.Vote
    HKLM\System\CCS\Services\SSSearch
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tmlbsvc

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CRS
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MCIS
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MCIS25
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MPS
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Site Server

    HKCR\Commerce.* (there are dozens of them!)

    HKCR\IISWAM.1_* (only those which pertain to Commerce samples)
    HKCR\MemAdmin.*
    HKCR\Membership.* (there are dozens of them!)
    HKCR\mfafile
    HKCR\mftfile
    HKCR\MPS.*
    HKCR\Push.*
    HKCR\SiteServer.*
    HKCR\SiteServerSearch.*
    HKCR\SS*.*


You should now be able to delete the C:\Microsoft Site Server\* folder and perform a clean installation.

Note: When you attempt to remove the Site Server folder, you may encounter the following error message:
Error: mscsdcom.dll is in use.
To resolve this, unregister the Mscsdcom.dll, Regsvr32 /u mscsdcom.dll, and the restart the computer.
