  • Microsoft Site Server version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you modify the userPassword attribute and set the String Syntax to Minimum Length and Maximum Length, the passwords are viewable in the Membership Directory Snap-in of the MMC, rather than being hidden (displayed as *******).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

This problem was first corrected in Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 3.

MORE INFORMATION

This fix corrects a problem that may occur when the string syntax length for the userPassword attribute definition is changed. To properly correct this problem, install the fix, and then change the userPassword Attribute Definition string syntax (again) to the desired value.

Note that the constraint needs to be modified once again in order for the change to take effect.
