SYMPTOMS

The following event populates the application event log of a Site Server 3.0 computer with Personalization and Membership installed:

The Collect Procedure for the Msgbldsvc service in Mbldctrs.dll generates an exception or returns an invalid status. Performance data returned by the counter DLL is not returned in Perf Data Block. The exception or status code returned is DWORD 0.

This occurs at each update interval of Performance Monitor if the message builder service is not started.

WORKAROUND

Starting the message builder service keeps the error from occurring. In situations where Personalization and Membership is not being used, Personalization and Membership can be uninstalled to keep these errors from occurring.
