SYMPTOMSIssuing an empty query causes an Access Violation error in Search Service (SSSearch.exe). CAUSEThe Access Violation error when processing NULL queries is caused by a coding error in SSSearch.exe. WORKAROUNDPrevent empty queries being issued to SSSearch.exe or block empty queries through search pages. RESOLUTIONA supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but
it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems
experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this
specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Site Server service pack
