XFOR: MCIS Forwarding-Address Attribute Not Functioning
ID: Q238443
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Commercial Internet System versions 2.0, 2.5
SYMPTOMS
Within a Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) that is mapped to a membership directory, you may notice that when you add a forwarding-address attribute to a mailbox, it does not actually forward mail.
CAUSE
The Site Server LDAP service is set to allow anonymous access but the public group has been removed in the Membership Directory Manager security settings.
RESOLUTION
You have two options to resolve this problem:
Method One
If security is not an issue, add the public group back to the Membership Directory Manager. To do so:
- Start the Site Server Management Console (MMC) and right-click the Membership Directory Manager. Click Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Click the Add button, and re-add the public group from the list.
- Select the appropriate permissions for the public group.
- Set Inheritance to Full, and click OK.
Method Two
If security is an issue, remove Site Server LDAP anonymous access and configure the POP3/IMAP4/SMTP services to bind to LDAP using "Simple" access. To do so:
- Start the Site Server MMC and select Personalization and Membership. Under Personalization and Membership, select your membership instance. Under your membership instance, right-click LDAP, and click Properties.
- Click the Membership Directory Security tab, and click Edit.
- Clear the Allow Anonymous check box, and click OK.
- Start the Internet Information Server MMC, and right-click the POP3 service. Click Properties.
- Click the LDAP Routing tab, switch the Binding Type to Simple, and enter the appropriate account information.
- Adjust the SMTP and IMAP4 LDAP Routing tab as you did the POP3 service.
