Direct Mail User Connection Password Check Fails

SYMPTOMS

When clicking Check Password on the Direct Mail properties dialog box to verify the password for your Direct Mail connection to the membership directory, the following error message may appear:

Check Password
Invalid password. Also, make sure that the server and user names that you entered are correct.


CAUSE

This issue may be caused by Clear Text/Basic authentication not being enabled on your Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) membership instance.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, see the following:

  1. From the Site Server Management Console (MMC), expand the Personalization and Membership (P&M) object.



  2. Expand the tree of membership instances and select the membership instance being used by Direct Mail.


  3. Right-click the LDAP component and click Properties.


  4. Click the Membership Directory Security tab and click Edit for Password Authentication Method.


  5. Select Clear Text/Basic Authentication.


  6. Click OK.


  7. Click OK again.



MORE INFORMATION

The Direct Mail service only connects to the membership directory using clear text/basic authentication.
