Event ID 4 ISP Commit Failed When Signing Up a New User with MAPS

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to sign up to your Microsoft Commercial Internet System (MCIS) server, you may receive the following message returned in the browser:

Your account is being created. This may take a few minutes.
MCIS ISP was unable to complete your request. Please click here to try again.

The Event Viewer on your signup server may also log the following event message in the Application Log:

Event ID : 4
Source : MAPS
Type : Informational
Description: ISPCommit Failed: Error connecting to IIS virtual directory: (Root). MAPS PWP Service Configuration Object

NOTE: The above errors only occur if the user is attempting to sign up for a plan that includes Personal Web Pages (PWP).

CAUSE

The PWP Service has an incorrectly configured Virtual Server option.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, verify that the descriptive name of the members Web site is the same as the Virtual Server option for the PWP Service.

To Verify the PWP Service Option

Browse to your ISP-Admin Web site and login using a local Windows NT Administrator user account.

Click Service Manager.

Select Personal Web Pages Service and click Modify.

Verify the Virtual Server option and edit if needed to match the descriptive name of the Web site in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
