Using MCIS FTP Server Causes Erratic Handling of PUT vs. GET and SIZE

ID: Q243329

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 2.5

SYMPTOMS

Even though you can upload and see a file on the FTP server, it cannot be downloaded.

CAUSE

When handling a PUT, FTP uses the credentials configured in the virtual directory configuration.

The GET command uses the credentials of the logged on user. In the case of anonymous access this is:

 IUSR_<computer_name>
The result is that you can either send the file to the FTP server or delete the file from the FTP server, however, the file cannot be downloaded.

WORKAROUND

Granted Permissions to the UNC path to the Windows NT account that is used for Anonymous access for the FTP site.
