Site Server 3.0 Setup Error: FrontPage Server Extensions Not Installed

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Site Server 3.0 or Site Server 3.0, Commerce Edition on a computer running Windows 2000, the following error message occurs:

Your system must meet the requirements in the System Requirements list below before Microsoft Site Server can be installed on this computer. The required components can be found on the Windows NT Option Pack CD or in the Support directory on the Site Server CD. The System Recommendations box indicates the current and recommended settings for your computer. If the System Requirements list is empty, click next to continue Setup. If your system is missing any requirements, click Exit Setup, install or configure the necessary requirements, and then run Setup again.

System recommendations: FrontPage Server Extensions not installed.


CAUSE

This problem is caused by one of the following:

  • The FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions are not installed.


    • -OR-

  • You did not run Ss3w2k.exe (which creates a necessary registry key) prior to running the Site Server 3.0 Setup program.



RESOLUTION

To install the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, do the following:

  1. Open Control Panel.


  2. Click Add/Remove Programs.


  3. Click the Add/Remove Windows Components button.


  4. Highlight Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Details.


  5. Click the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions check box to enable the Server Extensions.


  6. Click OK.


  7. Click Next.
