Error Message: 550 Unable to Relay for <Domain.com>

ID: Q244029

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When relaying to a number of other domains, Microsoft Commercial Internet System may produce the following error message:

550 Unable to relay for <domain.com.>

CAUSE

The correct order is not being used when domains are inserted into a hash table, which is used to quickly find domains. The incorrect sort order causes a loop that searches for a particular domain to terminate early.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Commercial Internet System service pack that contains this fix.
