SYMPTOMS
In Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0, software inventory is collected by analyzing files and extracting the header information. In many cases, products will have similar information but with different syntax or spelling. In order to keep each different manufacturer from showing up multiple times in the SMS Admin interface, a munger has been created to recognize similar names and list them as one. Under certain circumstances, different Microsoft products may report the manufacturer as "Microsoft," "Microsoft Corp." or "Microsoft Corporation." To keep each different abbreviation from appearing as a separate manufacturer, the munger is used to associate all possible names for Microsoft to one unique and recognizable name.
WORKAROUNDIn SMS 2.0 there is currently no way to modify the associations or add associations for new products and companies. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 2.0. Additional query words: prodsms swinv32
